The beach at Laida belongs to the municipality of Ibarrangelu and is located in the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve.

The biggest beach in the Mundaka estuary
With almost one kilometre of fine golden sand, it is the most attractive beach on the Mundaka estuary, offering all kinds of sports activities such as windsurf, kayaking or sailing, although surfing deserves a special mention. The waves here are ideal for longboard as the currents are perfect for this modality.
From this beach you access the famous ‘Left wave’ of Mundaka, which attracts thousands of surfers from all over the world.
Laida beach has showers, other public services, changing rooms, bars and restaurants and a small car park where you can find a space if you arrive early.
There is also a bus service to the beach from Gernika.
Just a few metres from Laida is Laga beach, one of the most unspoilt on the Basque coast with crystal-clear waters. Being further away from urban areas, Laga is also in located in the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve and has a spectacular landscape. It is highly recommended for surfing beginners.
How to get there
- Road: from Gernika take the BI 2238 to Lekeitio. When you reach Gautegiz de Arteaga take the turning to the beaches of Laga and Laida (BI 3234). The first beach is Laida and Laga is 2-3 kilometres further down the road.
- Train: there is no railway line to these two beaches.
