The Arrain Azoka of Bermeo was born as the first fish and canning fair in Euskadi
The initiative sets out to promote the fishing and canning tradition of the town, located in a special place: the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve. On the day of the event the Park of La Lamera fills up with stalls selling fresh and canned fish to delight both locals and visitors. The Arrain Azoka is a great showcase for the fishing and canning tradition that characterises the town, and the ideal opportunity to enjoy a festive traditional atmosphere, so typical of the Basque coast.
Hegaluze Prize
This prize is awarded every year to individuals, associations or groups that have worked to promote the town of Bermeo or have spread its fame far and wide.
As well as this prize, there is also a traditional pintxos competition or a simulation of fish sales on the day. The market is held in Bermeo every year in May, and is a unique opportunity to enjoy the coastal town and its customs.
